biography

Since leaving University in 1986 with a degree in illustration, Barry Patterson has spent his working life drawing. The images he produces are rich and vibrant, and though a degree of realism is always present, his main interest is in creating a sense of mood and atmosphere in his illustrations.

Barry has spent many years working for design agencies in London and has developed a wide and diverse range of illustrative skills extending from traditional paintings to entirely digital work and photography. Links to two websites showing both digital work and paintings and prints can be found at the bottom of this page.

This website, however, concentrates on the oil pastel work he produces. Barry works traditionally with oil pastels and increasingly digitally, mainly using Photoshop and Painter software. His pastel work is largely used in the fields of advertising, editorial and packaging, though Barry also produces images for limited edition print.

Based in the UK, Barry has an international client list, principally based in New York, London, Paris and Hamburg.
